Aaron Zimmerman guiding a Taranaki athlete through a single leg assessment

ACL · Return to Performance · New Plymouth

The last third is the part most people get wrong.

An ACL reconstruction is a nine to twelve month road. Your surgeon repairs the knee. Your physio gets you running. What is left is capacity, change of direction, and the confidence to trust it under fatigue.

The timeline, and where A2Z picks up

Nine to twelve months. Four blocks.

Months 0 to 3

Surgery and early rehab

This is your physio's work, not ours.

Months 3 to 6

Strength returns

Running begins. We often start alongside your physio here, building the capacity the later phases depend on.

Months 6 to 9 · A2Z

Change of direction

Deceleration and sport specific loading. This is the phase most programmes skip.

Months 9 to 12 · A2Z

Return to performance

Testing, then a graded return to training and play.

What gets tested

Passing at rest is not the same as passing tired.

Limb symmetry under load. Single leg force production. Hop testing across multiple planes. Deceleration control. Movement quality once fatigued. Games are played tired, so that is how we test.

Bring your discharge notes. You leave with a written report and a straight answer on where you are.
